History
Our Medical School has pioneered the establishment of the today’s Dicle University. For this purpose, 11 founding members established the Diyarbakir Ziya Gokalp University Actualization Association under the chairmanship of Vehbi Muhlis Dabakoğlu by 20th December 1960. As a result of long efforts, first of all 50 students began to study on the 18th of December 1966 at the Ankara Faculty of Medicine, on behalf of the Diyarbakir Faculty of Medicine. The Founding Dean of the Faculty of Medicine is Prof. Dr.Sabahattin PAYZIN.
The students brought from Ankara and the training was initiated in Diyarbakir by the 1st of October, 1969. A protocol was signed with the Ministry of Health and the upper part of Institute of Public Health has been allocated to Faculty of Medicine for two years. City hospital, chest diseases and birth hospital were transferred to the Faculty of Medicine together with their staff; A shack hospital with 120 beds (today belong to National Health Service) founded on the land behind the nursing home, and the anatomy, biology, chemistry, physics laboratories were activated in six pieces of shacks near the city rampart just behind the Sultani and Dar al Muallimin buildings heritaged from Ottomans.
The old buildings around the Fiskaya have been allocated to Faculty of Medicine by the Ministry of Education. The Prime Minister Ferit Melen was laid the foundation of the Medical School and Hospital with a ceremony on Sunday 9th July 1972. Today's School of Medicine and Hospital has been opened on 21st October, 1981. Our faculty has been joined to the newly established University of Diyarbakir in 1974. Our university was named "Dicle University" in 1982.

Qualification Awarded
The award (the diploma) of Associate degree for students who can not complete or apparently foreseen that they will unable to complete their medical course is regulated in accordance with the regulations made by the Council of Higher Education.
The students who have successfully completed the prescribed period of six years of education for the doctor of medicine are awarded with "Doctor of Medicine" degree. However, "Graduation Certificate" is issued for the students, and it will be collected back when the original diplomas are issued and given to the graduates. Diploma is given only once. In case of loss, a certificate is issued (which can be used in lieu of the diploma) but it indicates that “it was given due to the loss of original diploma”.
Admission Requirements
The students should present their high school diplomas and should be assigned to our university after the centrally managed national university assignment examination, or the students should be meet the conditions in accordance with “the regulations associated with international student admission” issued by the Council of Higher Education. Higher Grade Transition
Successful completion of a course is a prerequisite for the next course in Medical Education. Therefore, a student who fails one course can not continue to the upper level course. If the students fail in the first, second or third year they repeat that “education year” and take the all courses of that year again. If the students fail a training-course (internship) in the fourth, fifth and sixth year, they take only the training-course that they failed to pass. In the fourth year, when the students succeeded all internships, or in case succeeded at least in the two internships, they can take an internship from fifth grade, but primarily they should pass the failed internships first and the time/duration should be suitable. Common compulsory courses are not prerequisite courses to move upper level in first three years.
Graduation Requirements
The students, who succeded by taking all courses in the 6 years of medical school program and completed a total of 360 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits, are eligible to graduate. However, graduates of the Faculty of Medicine will get their diplomas after completing two years of compulsory service and following the approval by the Ministry of Health. A "Graduation Certificate" is issued until the diplomas are prepared. The graduates have to be give back this certificate to the faculty when they take their diplomas.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
